Voters will decide in November whether to make a sales tax increase permanent. The tax, known as Measure X, was approved in 2018 and provides over $80 million in annual revenue. It was designed to decrease and eventually be eliminated, but its fate will be decided in the upcoming vote.

The tax has generated nearly $500 million so far, with a significant portion going to general revenue purposes. A large amount, $166 million, was allocated for unrestricted use, such as building repairs. Further details on the allocation of Measure X funds are available.

The tax currently accounts for about 20% of the general fund, funding public safety, maintenance, and youth programs.
